Well, hello! It’s Thursday again. I’m enjoying LONG BRIGHT RIVER this week and listening to old Story Grid podcast episodes. I hope your reading week is going well.
Welcome to this week’s edition of 3-2-1 Thursday.
Here are 3 crime fiction links, 2 quotes, and 1 question for this week:
3 LINKS
- The huge news this week in the crime fiction world was that Lee Child plans to hand-off his Reacher series to his brother, also a writer. It should be very interesting to see how this plays out. Other writers have definitely had their big series characters continue, usually after their death. Child has a very distinct style. Sounds like they plan to collaborate on a few before Child drops out completely. The one iron-clad stipulation? His brother had to change his last name to Child, too.
- Speaking of series continuing in perpetuity….Netflix released a trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Robert Parker’s Spenser character. This is actually based on Ace Atkins WONDERLAND Spenser book. This time Spenser will be played by Mark Whalberg. The pilot is directed by Peter Berg. So there is some talent behind this but the trailer has me …. concerned. Looks a little too formulaic. I did think the trailer picked up a bit in the second half.
- The other big news roiling the book and publishing world is the growing backlash against the recent release of the literary thriller AMERICAN DIRT. BuzzFeed has a good compilation of the controversy which pretty much follows the modern day social media template.
