5 of My Favorite Philly Places
Max Strong returns next week in BURN THE NIGHT, the fifth book in the series. Max is lying low driving nights for a car service when he picks up a woman in a bloody wedding dress with a mysterious box. Max soon finds himself forced from the shadows and drawn into a dangerous vendetta with a long history.
This one is set in Philadelphia. A place where I still have a lot of family and visit often. America’s fifth largest city has a lot to offer from food, to history, to art, to nightlife.
The book was a blast to write and it was really fun to “virtual” re-visit a lot of my favorite places in the city.
Philly’s cheesesteak wars go beyond the well-known Pat and Geno’s. There are many, many cheesesteak joints. Some are…not good but many are very, very good. Everyone has an opinion. My personal favorite is Jim’s South St.
The Museum of the American Revolution
Opened recently in 2017, this museum in the heart of the historic district, two blocks from Independence Hall, and uses a lot of newer technology and design elements to tell the Revolution’s story.
Located in the historically Italian neighborhood around South St. The Italian market today is more diverse and food lover’s dream. Mix with the locals at both indoor and outdoor vendors from old school provision like DiBruno’s cheese to newer places featuring Mexican or Vietnamese eats. Go hungry, bring cash.
If you want a one-stop shop for everything and anything Philly food, take a spin through Reading Terminal. From Pennsylvania Dutch, to roast pork, to cannoli, you will leave happy and with a very full stomach.
Philly has some very well known and world-class public and private art museums in the city but if you want something a little more unique take a tour of the city’s more than 4,000 outdoor murals celebrating everything from women in the arts, to civil rights, to doo-wop icons.
This is only a drop in the bucket of what Philly has to offer. If you can’t travel, maybe reading about it is the next best thing. You can pre-order Max’s Philly adventure, BURN THE NIGHT, today for a special launch week price of just $2.99.
